Grove City opens season at California (Pa.)

CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team opened the 2012 season Saturday morning by placing third out of six teams at the California University of Pennsylvania Marty Uher Invitational. The Wolverines finished the meet with 82 team points. Division II program Indiana (Pa.) won the team title with 21 points and D-II member California (Pa.) placed second with 40 points.

Senior Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) paced Grove City by finishing 11th overall with a time of 21 minutes, 25 seconds while classmate Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) earned 15th in 21:46. Junior Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) placed 16th with a time of 21:47, one second ahead of senior Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent), who took 18th.

Sophomore Kara Cremean (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) finished 23rd (22:15), senior Hillary Wilson (Solon, Ohio/Solon) took 24th (22:29) and junior Cayla Clawson (York, Pa./Central York) came home 27th in 22:56.

Indiana junior Steph Beaudette won the individual race in 19:44.

Grove City will return to action Friday, September 14 at the Slippery Rock University Invitational.
