Grove City takes 4th at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team placed fourth out of seven teams Friday afternoon at Slippery Rock University's Mack Cooper Invitational, held at Cooper's Lake.

The Wolverines accumulated 98 team points to finish fourth. Division II Wayne State (Mich.) won the event with 35 points and Slippery Rock took second with 64 points and Carnegie Mellon placed third at 87 points.

Senior Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) led Grove City by taking fifth overall with a time of 23 minutes, 21.29 seconds. Senior Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) placed 15th in 24:07.78. Senior Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) earned 21st with a time of 24:30.43.

Senior Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent) placed 31st in 24:56.36 while junior Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) finished 36th (25:22.16).

Junior Cayla Clawson (York, Pa./Central York) took 43rd (25:59.51), one spot ahead of sophomore Kara Cremean (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion), who recorded a time of 26:03.38.

Slippery Rock's Stephanie Case earned medalist honors with a time of 22:25.24.

The Wolverines return to action September 29 at the Bethany Invitational.
