Grove City wins Bethany Invitational

BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team won the team championship at the Bethany College Invitational Saturday afternoon as the Wolverines finished the eight-team meet with just 30 team points. Waynesburg took second with 60 points and Division II Alderson-Broaddus placed third with 76 points.

Eight Grove City runners finished in the top 17. Senior Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) finished second overall with a time of 24 minutes, 12 seconds. She finished as the top Division III entrant in the meet.

Senior Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) captured third place in 24:17 while senior Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) placed seventh in a time of 24:38. Senior Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent) finished eighth (24:43) and junior Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) posted a 10th-place time of 24:54.

Sophomore Kara Cremean (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) finished 15th (25:31), one spot ahead of junior Cayla Clawson (York, Pa./Central York). Clawson took 16th in 25:33. Senior Grace Hanson (Fairland, Ind./Homeschooled) earned 17th place with a time of 25:36.

Alderson-Broaddus' Jenny Brewer won the event with a time of 24:08. Seventy-seven runners competed.

Grove City will compete in the Gettysburg Invitational October 13.
