Grove City wins 24th straight title

BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team captured its 24th consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference title Saturday as the Wolverines finished first in the team standings at the PAC Championships, hosted by Bethany College.

Grove City earned just 35 points in rolling to the championship. Geneva finished second with 65 team points.

Seven Grove City runners earned All-Conference recognition by finishing in the top 14. Senior Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) led Grove City by finishing second overall. Smith completed the six-kilometer course in 23 minutes, 5 seconds.

Senior Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) finished fifth overall with a time of 23:35 while classmate Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) took seventh in 23:54. Smith, Fisher and Breese all earned First Team All-PAC.

Senior Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent) placed 10th (24:16), one spot ahead of senior Grace Hanson (Fairland, Ind./Homeschooled). Hanson completed the course in 24:17.

Junior Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) earned 14th with a 24:31 clocking and junior Austin Powell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) captured 19th with a time of 24:46.

Dunsworth, Hanson and Skorup all earned Second Team All-PAC. Powell merited Honorable Mention.

Head coach Sean Severson earned PAC Coach of the Year honors.

Washington & Jefferson's Kristen Galligan won the individual race in 21:45.

Grove City returns to action November 2 at the College of Wooster Twilight 5K.
