Grove City takes 9th

NEWVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team concluded the 2012 season Saturday by finishing ninth out of 52 teams at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, hosted by Dickinson College at Big Spring High School.

Grove City accumulated 318 team points. Johns Hopkins won the meet with 63 points while Haverford took second with 79. Host Dickinson had 126 points, good for third place.

Senior Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) led Grove City by placing 33rd overall with a time of 23 minutes, 34.5 seconds for six kilometers. By finishing in the top 35, Smith earns All-Mideast Region honors for the fourth straight season.

Senior Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) placed 42nd in the 346-runner field with a time of 23:42.6 while senior Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) captured 76th in 24:43.3. Junior Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) took 77th in 24:43.6.

Junior Austin Powell (Shamong, N.Y./Seneca) earned 94th (24:55.8) and senior Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent) took 101st in 24:59.9. Senior Grace Hanson (Fairland, Ind./Homeschooled) earned 121st in 25:25.1.

Johns Hopkins freshman Hanna Oneda won the overall race in 21:34.7.

As a team, Grove City has finished in the top 10 at the regional championships in each of the last six seasons.
