Grove City wins season opening meet

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's cross country team opened the 2015 season Tuesday evening by winning the team title at the Wolverines' inaugural Kickoff Invite. Grove City finished with 25 team points while perennial powerhouse Allegheny took second with 30 points. Westminster (102 points), Waynesburg (113) and Geneva (114) rounded out the five-team field.

Senior Emily Rabenold (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) won the individual title by completing the five-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 55.94 seconds. Sophomore Martha Mihm (Stoneridge, N.Y./Rondout Valley) earned second with a time of 19:12.61.

Senior Stevie Huston (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) captured fourth place (19:49.24) while junior Kellen McGann (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) took eighth in a time of 20:21.43. Freshman Rachel Martin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Eden Christian) rounded out the Wolverines' top five with a 10th-place finish in 20:31.93.

Junior Lydia Keiper (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) finished 14th (20:48.54) and senior Emily Townsend (Tucker, Ga./Killian Hill Christian) came in 16th with a time of 21:15.26.

The meet marked the first cross country event held on campus since 1999. Grove City returns to action September 11 at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational.
