Grove City men open track and field season at Clarion U

CLARION, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team opened the 2003 season at Clarion University's unscored Early Bird Invitational Saturday at Clarion University.

Numerous Wolverines excelled at the eight-team event which featured three Division III schools. Senior Ryan Mitchell (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) won the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 9:49.54. Junior Rory Phillips (Kane, Pa./Kane) led Grove City in the field, winning the javelin with a throw of 164 feet, 8 inches. 

Senior Jeb Schreiber (Enon, Ohio/Oil City, Pa.) took second in the 400 hurdles in 58.47 seconds and third in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 17.30 seconds. He also finished third in the high jump, clearing 5-10. Senior Josh Christy (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) placed third in the 400 dash (52.90) and 400 hurdles (60.03). 

Junior Drew Martin (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) tied for second in the long jump at 18-10 and finished fifth in the triple jump at 38-2. Senior Nick Ondrasik (Brookville, Pa./Brookville) placed third in the triple jump, reaching 40 feet, 4 1/2 inches. 

Junior Steve Brown (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim) finished fourth in the 10,000 with a time of 34:06.2 while frosh Dan Chittick (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) finished fifth in the 1500. His time of 4:23 ranked second among Division III athletes. Also, sophomore Luke Henry (Knox, Pa./Keystone) finished fifth in the 800 with a 2:05.20 and junior Dan Corsi (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) threw the discus 112-8 to earn fifth.
