Wolverines host 6-team event; finish 3rd

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team finished third out of six teams at the Grove City College Track and Field Meet Tuesday afternoon at Robert E. Thorn Field.

The Wolverines finished with 100 points, trailing only Geneva (155) and Malone (127). Walsh (76), Westminster (71) and Washington and Jefferson (12) rounded out the field.

Numerous Wolverine athletes turned in outstanding performances at the meet. Junior Steve Brown (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim) took second in the 5000 in 16:18.57 while senior Josh Christy (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) finished second in the 400 hurdles (58.38). Christy also took fifth in the 110 high hurdles.

Junior  Rory Phillips (Kane, Pa./Kane) placed second in the javelin with a throw of 168 feet, 8 inches. Senior Nick Ondrasik (Brookville, Pa./Brookville) took third in the triple jump (42-7 1/2) while senior Jeb Schreiber (Enon, Ohio/Oil City, Pa.) earned thirds in both the high hurdles and high jump. Schreiber also finished fourth in the 400 hurdles.

In addition, senior Ryan Mitchell (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) finished third in the 1500 while freshman Jon Essel (East Heartland, Conn./The Gilbert School) grabbed third in the 10,000-meter run. 

Junior Drew Martin (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) earned points in five events Tuesday. Martin took fourth in both the high hurdles and long jump, fifth in the javelin and sixth place in both the high jump and triple jump. Junior Steve Roberts (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) finished fourth in the 100 dash while sophomore Luke Henry (Knox, Pa./Keystone) finished fourth in the 800 run. 

Freshman Matthew George (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) was fourth in the pole vault, two spots ahead of classmate John Smith (Oil City, Pa./Oil City).
