Wolverines compete at Slippery Rock invitational

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Several members of the Grove City College men's track and field team turned in outstanding performances at the Slippery Rock University Last Chance Meet Wednesday afternoon at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.  

Three Wolverines recorded individual victories Wednesday. Senior Nick Ondrasik (Brookville, Pa./Brookville) won the triple jump with a season-best leap of 43 feet, 11 1/4 inches while senior Ryan Mitchell (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) took top honors in the steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes, 50.2 seconds.

Junior Drew Martin (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) won the 400 in a time of 52.43 seconds. 

Junior Rory Phillips (Kane, Pa./Kane) earned second in the javelin with a season-best toss of 194 feet while junior Steve Brown (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim) was runner-up in the 1500 (4:23.10). Freshmen Dan Chittick (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) and Jon Essel (East Hartland, Conn./The Gilbert School) took third and fourth, respectively, in the 1500.

Senior Josh Christy (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) crossed third in the 400 while freshman Adam Wargo (West Farmington, Ohio/Champion) grabbed third in the 200 and fourth in the 100-meter dash. Senior Jeb Schreiber (Enon, Ohio/Oil City, Pa.) was third in the high jump, one spot ahead of Martin. 

Junior Dan Corsi (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) finished third in the discus for the Wolverines. 

Grove City will host the Grove City Invitational Saturday at Robert E. Thorn Field.
