Grove City hosts Parents' Day Invitational

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team hosted the program's annual Parents' Day Invitational Saturday at Robert E. Thorn Field.

Two Wolverine athletes earned individual titles while a third qualified for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships in the decathlon. 

Senior Ryan Mitchell (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) won the steeplechase in 9:52.05 while junior Steve Brown (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim) opened the day's competition by winning the 10,000 in a time of 34:24.43.

Meanwhile, junior Drew Martin (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) qualified for the decathlon with 5,366 points earned both Saturday as well as last Wednesday at the Slippery Rock University Last Chance Meet. Martin is Grove City's first decathlete to qualify for postseason competition. 

Freshman Dan Chittick (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) placed second in the 1500 (4:21.43) while junior Rory Phillips (Kane, Pa./Kane) threw the javelin 193 feet, 6 inches, to take second. Freshman Matt George (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) cleared 13-1 to finish second in the pole vault while senior Nick Ondrasik (Brookville, Pa./Brookville) leaped 41-9 to take second in the triple jump.

Sophomore Luke Henry (Knox, Pa./Keystone) took third in the 800 and fifth in the triple jump while junior Dan Corsi (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) placed third in the discus and fifth in the shot put. Senior Josh Christy (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) grabbed fourth in the steeplechase while senior Dustin Dimit (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) was fourth in the 1500. 

Freshman Adam Wargo (West Farmington, Ohio/Champion) took fifth in the 100-meter dash while junior Mike Richards (Brookville, Pa./Brookville) finished fifth in the 800. Senior Jeb Schreiber (Enon, Ohio/Oil City, Pa.) placed fifth in the 400 hurdles.
