Grove City competes at Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team placed fourth at the six-team Geneva College Merriman Butler Invitational Friday afternoon with 129.5 team points.. The Wolverines were the only non-scholarship program in the field. Malone won the meet with 218.5 points.

Sophomore Andrew Kloes (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) led the Wolverines by winning the 5000 in a College-record time of 15:27.67. That time also qualifies Kloes for the ECAC Championships.

Grove City also produced a quartet of second-place finishes. Sophomore Sam Dippold (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) took second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 58.29 seconds while freshman Chris Andrew (Bow, N.H./Bow) took second in the steeplechase (10:28.5).

Sophomore Matt Klein (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) took second in the javelin with a toss of 159 feet, 10 inches while freshman pole vaulter Matt Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) tied for second with freshman Scott Mang (Erie, Pa./McDowell) after clearing 13-6.

Freshman Greg Kroleski (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) took third in the steeplechase (10:56.7), one spot ahead of freshman Nate Wool (Dillsburg, Pa./Bermudian Springs), who posted a time of 11:18.3. Junior Dan Chittick (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) took third in the 15000 with a time of 4:18.24 while sophomore Mark Murchie (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) took third in the 400 (51.60).

Freshman high jumper Jeremy Hurt (Verona, Pa./Riverview) qualified for the ECAC Championships after clearing 6-4, good for fourth place. Freshman Bob Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) took fourth in the 400 hurdles (58.90) while freshman Dave Hodge (Enon Valley, Pa./Mohawk) took fourth in the triple jump (41-2 3/4). Freshman thrower Bill Waugh (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) took fourth in the javelin with a throw of 156 feet.

Grove City will compete in the Slippery Rock Invitational this Saturday at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
