Grove City fares well at IUP Open

INDIANA, Pa. -- Numerous members of the Grove City College men's track and field team posted noteworthy finishes Saturday at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Open.

Freshman jumper Jeremy Hurt (Verona, Pa./Riverview) won the high jump, clearing 6 feet. He also took seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 42-3/4. Senior Luke Henry (Knox, Pa./Keystone) placed second in the 800 with a mark of 2:01.20 while freshman Bob Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) placed fifth in the 110 high hurdles (16.21 seconds). Rummel added a 10th-place finish in the 400 hurdles (59.60).

Freshman Matt Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) cleared 13-7 in the pole vault to earn sixth place while sophomore Jesse Sunquist (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) finished sixth in the 400 with a time of 52.80 seconds. Sophomore Mark Murchie (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) grabbed sixth in the 200 (23.20).

Junior Dan Chittick (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) took eighth in the 1500 (4:10.87) while senior Dan Adams (Derwood, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) finished 10th in the 800 (2:03.70). Freshman Bill Waugh (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) took 10th in the discus with a throw of 127-7 1/4. Waugh also took 11th in the shot (40-10 1/2). Freshman Jordan Hart (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) finished 11th in the discus (127-2 1/4) and 12th in the shot (40-8).

Senior Philip Hart (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) took 11th in the 100 dash (11.30) while sophomores Seth Fox (Ford City, Pa./Ford City) and Dave Majewski (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint Central) tied for 12th at 11.40 seconds. Freshman Chris Andrew (Bow, N.H./Bow) took 12th in the 5000 (17:05.4).

Grove City will look to claim its sixth Presidents' Athletic Conference championship in seven years Saturday at the PAC Championships, hosted by Washington and Jefferson College.
