Wolverines compete at SRU Invitational
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field opened the 2006 season by participating in the Slippery Rock University Invitational Saturday at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
Three Grove City athletes earned second-place finishes to help lead the Wolverine effort. Junior Mark Murchie (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) earned runner-up in the 400 dash with a time of 53.60 seconds while junior Jesse Sunquist (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) finished second in the 400 hurdles (59.89). Sophomore Justin Fowler (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) took second in the discus with a throw of 135 feet, 7 inches.
Junior Bob Perri (Washington, Pa./Trinity) placed third in the shot put (43-4 1/4) while sophomore Dave Hodge (Enon Valley, Pa./Mohawk) took third in the triple jump (43-5). Sophomore Matt Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) cleared 13-6 to finish third in the pole vault.
Freshman Chris Allebach (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) finished third in the 400 hurdles (1:00.74), one spot ahead of sophomore teammate Bob Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch). Rummel posted a time of 1:01.00.
Junior Yu Kuwabara (Owings Mills, Md./University, W. Va.) took fourth in the 400 (54.60) while freshman Darin Miller (Line Lexington, Pa./Christopher Dock) finished fourth in the 800 (2:04.40). Sophomore Joey Cortez (Ellwood City, Pa./Ellwood City) placed fourth in the 1500 (4:21.26).
Grove City will compete in Carnegie Mellon's West Penn Championships next Saturday in Pittsburgh.
