Grove City takes 2nd at Geneva Friday

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field placed second in Geneva College's Merriman/Butler Invitational Friday afternoon by earning 135 team points. NCAA Division I member Robert Morris won the event with 225 points. Geneva (87), St. Vincent (40), Duquesne (26) and Walsh (26) completed the field.

Grove City closed the meet by winning the 1600-meter relay. The quartet of junior Sam Dippold (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), junior Yu Kuwabara (Owings Mills, Md./University, W. Va.), junior Mark Murchie (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) and freshman Chris Allebach (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) won the race in a time of 3 minutes, 29.25 seconds.

Sophomore Chris Andrew (Bow, N.H./Bow) won the 3000 steeplechase for the Wolverines, posting a victorious time of 10:11 while sophomore Nate Wool (Dillsburg, Pa./Bermudian Springs) took second in 11:09.

Dippold also took second in the 400 hurdles (59.12) while sophomore Bob Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) finished second in the 110 high hurdles (16.36). Junior Matt Klein (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) earned second in the javelin with a throw of 156 feet, 1 inch. Sophomore Matt Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) cleared 14-0 in the pole vault to earn second place.

Sophomore Justin Fowler (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) placed third in the shot put with a toss of 44-3 while sophomore Dave Hodge (Enon Valley, Pa./Mohawk) took third in the triple jump (43-2). Sophomore Scott Mang (Erie, Pa./McDowell) cleared 13-0 in the pole vault, good for third place.

Grove City will return to action next Saturday, April 15, at the Slippery Rock Invitational.
