Grove City competes at IUP Invite

INDIANA, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team competed at Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Invitational Saturday as the Wolverines made final preparations for this weekend's upcoming Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships.

Six Grove City athletes posted top-five finishes at IUP. Junior hurdler Sam Dippold (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) took third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.00 seconds while sophomore hurdler Bob Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) finished third in the 110 high hurdles in 16.00 seconds. Freshman Dan Spaulding (Spencerport, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) finished third in the 5000 (15:58.70).

Sophomore Chris Andrew (Bow, N.H./Bow) crossed fourth in the 3000 steeplechase (10:16.60), one spot ahead of classmate Greg Kroleski (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch). Kroleski posted a time of 10:18.50.

Dippold, junior Jesse Sunquist (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton), junior Yu Kuwabara (Owings Mills, Md./University, W. Va.) and junior Mark Murchie (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) took fourth in the 1600-meter relay in 3:28.90. Sunquist also took seventh in the 400 hurdles (58.70) while junior Andrew Leuenberger (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) finished seventh in the 5000 (16:32.5).

In the field, sophomore Justin Fowler (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 130 feet, 6 inches, while junior Bob Perri (Washington, Pa./Trinity) finished sixth in the shot (45-4). Freshman Chris Huber (Ontario, Ohio/Ontario) took sixth in the discus with a toss of 125-8.

Grove City will compete in the PAC Championships in New Wilmington at Westminster College Saturday.
