Eleven earn wins at Grove City Quad

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Eleven different members of the Grove City College men's track and field team posted individual victories Wednesday afternoon as the Wolverines hosted Geneva, Saint Vincent and Westminster in the unscored Grove City Quad Meet at Robert E. Thorn Field.

Junior Bob Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) earned two wins for Grove City as he swept the hurdle events. Rummel won the 110 high hurdles in 16.56 seconds, then won the 400 hurdles in 1:02.13.

Senior Scott Fichter (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) won the 100 dash in 11.87 while senior Mark Murchie (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) took the 200 in 23.02. Sophomore Darin Miller (Line Lexington, Pa./Christopher Dock) won the 400 in 53.16 seconds. Junior Chris Andrew (Bow, N.H./Bow) won the steeplechase with a time of 9:48.89.

Fichter, sophomore Chris Allebach (Souderton, Pa./Souderton), senior Dave Majewski (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint Central) and freshman Tim Palma (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) won the 400-meter relay in 44.44 seconds. Allebach, Murchie, senior Yu Kuwabara (Owings Mills, Md./University, W. Va.) and senior Jesse Sunquist (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) won the 1600 relay (3:31.19).

Grove City also won six of seven field events Wednesday. Junior pole vaulter Matt Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) won his fifth straight regular-season meet by clearing 12 feet, 6 inches. Junior Dave Hodge (Enon Valley, Pa./Mohawk) won the triple jump with a leap of 42-10 3/4 while senior Craig Hallman (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside) cleared 5-8 to win the high jump.

Grove City swept the throws as three different Wolverines earned wins. Senior Bob Perri (Washington, Pa./Trinity) won the shot put with a mark of 45-7 1/4 while freshman Tony Clark (Stow, Ohio/Stow) threw the discus 143-9 to capture first. Senior Matt Klein (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) won the javelin with a toss of 162-2.

The Wolverines will compete in the Slippery Rock University Invitational Saturday afternoon on the Bill Lennox Track inside N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
