Grove City competes at Malone

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's track and field team competed in Malone College's unscored Jack Hazen Open Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Sean Domer (Indiana, Pa./United) recorded Grove City's lone individual victory Saturday by winning the javelin for the second straight week. Domer posted a top throw of 190 feet, 11 inches.

Senior pole vaulter Matt Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) took second by clearing 14-4 while in the 5000-meter run, junior Dan Spaulding (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) earned runner-up with a time of 15 minutes, 50.58 seconds.

Junior Jonathan Coopersmith (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge), senior Dustin Heath (China, Maine/Erskine Academy), junior Darin Miller (Line Lexington, Pa./Christopher Dock) and sophomore Derek Kruse (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) took second in the 3200-meter relay with a time of 8:04.88.

Kruse also cleared 6-0 in the high jump to take third while senior thrower Bob Perri (Washington, Pa./Trinity) placed third in the shot put with a mark of 50-8.

Grove City also finished third in the 400-meter relay as senior Bob Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch), junior Chris Allebach (Souderton, Pa./Souderton), sophomore Tim Palma (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) and freshman Mike Cox (Smithtown, N.Y./Stony Brook) combined for a time of 44.90.

Senior Dave Hodge (Enon Valley, Pa./Mohawk) took fifth in the triple jump (41-6) while senior Greg Kroleski (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) placed fifth in the 5000 with a time of 16:07.68. Senior Chris Andrew (Bow, N.H./Bow) finished fifth in the steeplechase (10:04.69).

Allebach, Palma, Miller and Rummel took sixth in the 1600 relay (3:32.56) while freshman John Fite (Sunnyvale, Calif./Ad Fontes) crossed sixth in the 400 (51.79). Rummel finished seventh in the 400 hurdles (58.86) and senior Scott Mang (Erie, Pa./McDowell) cleared 13 feet to take seventh in the pole vault.

Grove City will host a quadrangular meet Wednesday evening at 5 p.m. at Robert E. Thorn Field.
