Three earn wins at Westminster Invite

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Grove City College men's track and field athletes earned four total victories Saturday afternoon as the Wolverines competed in the Westminster College Invitational at Memorial Field.

Sophomore Derek Kruse (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) picked up Grove City's lone individual win on the track as he led a 1-2-3 Grove City sweep in the 800 with a time of 1 minute, 59.46 seconds.

Meanwhile, the 1600-meter relay team of junior Chris Allebach (Souderton, Pa./Souderton), junior Jonathan Coopersmith (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge), freshman John Fite (Sunnyvale, Calif./Ad Fontes) and junior Darin Miller (Line Lexington, Pa./Christopher Dock) closed the meet with a victorious time of 3:25.81.

Senior Matt Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) won the pole vault by clearing 4.40 meters. Sophomore Sean Domer (Indiana, Pa./United) won the javelin with a toss of 54.34m.

Coopersmith earned runner-up in the 800 (1:59.63) while Miller completed the Wolverine sweep with a third-place time of 2:01.23. Kruse also took second in the high jump by clearing 1.85 meters. Senior Dave Hodge (Enon Valley, Pa./Mohawk) placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.99 meters.

Also for Grove City, senior Bob Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) finished fourth in the 110 hurdles in 15.53 seconds. Senior Bob Perri (Washington, Pa./Trinity) took fifth in the shot put (14.78m) while sophomore Tony Clark (Stow, Ohio/Stow) placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 43.05 meters. Freshman Kevin Gallagher (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown West) took fifth in the 400 with a time of 52.21.

Grove City will compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships next Saturday at Washington & Jefferson College. The Wolverines are in pursuit of their fourth straight PAC title and their ninth crown in the last 10 years.
