GROVE CITY, PA, March 22, 2000--Mike Suchan (Independence, OH/Independence) gave up just three hits in six innings and Mike Kashurba (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) went 3-for-4 with four RBI as Grove City (1-4, 1-1 PAC) salvaged a split in its home opener with an 8-3 win over Thiel (7-10, 1-3 PAC) Wednesday. The Tomcats won the first game, 4-2.

Suchan (1-0) blanked Thiel through the first five innings before giving up a pair of runs in the sixth (one earned). The southpaw struck out six and walked none. J.G. Louden (Morgantown, WV/University) fanned three in the seventh and allowed an unearned run.

Kashurba belted a solo home run in the fifth, his second round-tripper of the day, and added a pair of run-producing singles. Adam Myers (Conneaut Lake, PA/Conneaut Lake) also collected three hits in four at-bats and drove in two.  Nate Kauffman (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) had a triple, one of 11 Wolverine hits in the nightcap.

Kashurba smacked a two-run homer in the 4-2 loss.  Brian Kaufold (Butler, PA/Butler) took the loss (0-2), surrendering seven hits and four earned runs in seven complete, while punching out four and walking one.
