GCC flirts with upset of the year

MARIETTA, OH, April 6, 2000--Perennial power Marietta College scored three runs in the ninth to stave off the Wolverines' bid to post one of the biggest upsets in Division III baseball this season.  The host Pioneers escaped with a 7-6 victory to improve to 25-2 on the season, while Grove City fell to 7-8 overall.

Mike Kashurba (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) and J.G. Louden (Morgantown, WV/University) each cracked solo home runs and Adam Booth (Hartville, OH/Lake) went 4-for-5 as the Wolverines out-hit Marietta, 12-9, and took a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth.  Louden, Nate Kauffman (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) and Drew Hoagland (Butler, PA/Knoch) had two hits apiece for GCC.

The game marked the first ever meeting between the two schools.
