WASHINGTON, PA, April 15, 2000--The Wolverines (10-9, 10-4 PAC) secured the second seed at next week's Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Baseball Tournament by sweeping host Washington & Jefferson (10-25, 4-7 PAC) Saturday by finals of 19-1 and 12-6.

Grove City will open the tournament Monday against third-seeded Bethany in Bethany, WV.  Bethany received hosting rights since Waynesburg, another southern school, earned the top seed.  The format was designed to have all first-day games played within reasonable proximity.

Nate Kauffman (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) belted a pair of home runs at W&J -- giving him four on the season -- as the Wolverines collected 33 hits in the sweep.  J.G. Louden (Morgantown, WV/University) cracked his second round-tripper and Ben Helms (Mead, WA/St. George School) recorded his first career homer.

Adam Myers (Meadville, PA/Meadville) went 4-for-4 in the first game and Eric Bell (Grove City, PA/Grove City) went 3-for-3 in the nightcap.

Brian Kaufold (Butler, PA/Butler) and Dan Sumner (Neshannock, PA/Neshannock) combined on a seven-hitter in the first game.  Mike Suchan (Independence, OH/Independecne), Bill Hammel (Saxonburg, PA/South Kitsap (WA)) and Helms took the hill in game two.

Game box scores to be posted Sunday evening.
