GCC stays alive with game-winner in ninth

BETHANY, WV, April 19, 2000--J.G. Louden (Morgantown, WV/University) delivered a bases-loaded, one-out single in the bottom of the ninth to score Adam Booth (Hartville, OH/Lake), giving Grove City a 7-6 win over Washington  & Jefferson in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Baseball Tournament Wednesday in Bethany, WV.

The second-seeded Wolverines (11-10) will play #5 Thiel Thursday at 12:00 in Bethany.  The winner will advance to play the loser of the #1 Waynesburg vs. #3 Bethany game Thursday at Waynesburg.  Fourth-seeded W&J fell out of the double-elimination tournament.

Grove City opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning courtesy of RF Nate Kaufmann (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan), who blasted his fifth homer of the season with one on.  W&J went ahead 6-2 with a six spot in the fourth. The Wolverines tied the game with four runs in the fifth.

3B Louden had two of Grove City's six hits in the game, while SS Mike Kashurba (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) and DH Adam Myers (Conneaut Lake, PA/Conneaut Lake) added a double each.

Southpaw Mike Suchan (Independence, OH/Independence) notched the win in relief of Brian Kaufold (Butler, PA/Butler), who left the game with one out in the fourth. Suchan (2-1) pitched shutout ball over the final five and two-thirds, yielding just three hits, while fanning six and walking just one. Kaufold surrendered six runs (5 ER) on eight hits.
