Grove City opens up on La Roche

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Grove City College baseball team evened its overall record at 9-9 Tuesday by sweeping a home doubleheader from La Roche, 18-0, and 4-2.

The Wolverines collected 20 hits in the opener, including four home runs. Two round-trippers came off the bat of sophomore right fielder Michael McMillen (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), who went 4-for-5, scored three runs and drove in six. McMillen also had one of Grove City's four doubles.

Sophomore catcher A.J. Stedford (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) homered, doubled, singled and knocked five runs for the Wolverines while freshman center fielder Jason DeMeo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) homered, doubled and scored three runs.

In addition, freshman sophomore Mike MacDonald (Ellwood City, Pa./Ellwood City) went 2-for-4 with a double in his first collegiate start while junior second baseman Jake Cuthbert (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) went 3-for-3. Junior Greg Grupp (Harmony, Pa./Slippery Rock) and freshman Jerry Ott (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) both stroked a pair of hits.

Freshman Eric Arnesen (Princeton, N.J./Timothy Christian) fired five innings of two-hit ball for his first collegiate victory. Freshman Mike Kennedy (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) added two innings of scoreless relief.

In the nightcap, freshman Bradford Clark (Letart, W. Va./Wahama) and three relievers combined on a four-hitter. Clark picked up the victory, allowing two runs in four innings while Kennedy, sophomore Luke Lester (Dover, Ohio/Dover) and Cuthbert all pitched an inning. Cuthbert picked up his second save of the year.

DeMeo and McDonald both went 2-for-3 while senior catcher Matt Skipper (Canton, Ohio/Canton South) belted a solo homer.
