by Greg Knowlden, sports information student assistant

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- At Jack Critchfield Park, the Grove City College baseball team fell to 13-13 overall with an 8-2 loss at Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division champion Slippery Rock Tuesday night.

The Rock, ranked nationally in Division II, scored four in the first, but the Wolverines responded with two in the second.  Junior pitcher Greg Grupp (Harmony, Pa./Slippery Rock) reached on an error, moved to second on a single by sophomore third baseman Jonathan Mycyk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy), and scored on a double to left field by senior catcher Matt Skipper (Canton, Ohio/Canton South).  Mycyk scored the inning’s second run on a ground ball to shortstop.

Grupp allowed six runs (five earned) in six innings and struck out seven men.  Junior Matt Kearney (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) recorded five strikeouts in two innings while surrendering two runs.

Mycyk produced the Wolverines' lone multiple-hit game.  Freshman shortstop Mike Ritter (Moon, Pa./Moon) and freshman center fielder Jason DeMeo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) also pounded base hits.

Grove City travels to Hiram tomorrow for a 4 p.m. game.
