Presidents top Grove City, 9-5

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team fell to 0-4 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play Friday afternoon with a 9-5 loss to Washington and Jefferson at Ross Memorial Park.

The Wolverines (2-11 overall) collected 11 hits on the afternoon but could not rally from an early 4-0 deficit.

Freshman DH Michael Busin (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) went 3-for-4 while freshman second baseman Bryan Pierrot (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) and junior center fielder Jerry Ott (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) each went 2-for-5.

Ott knocked in a pair of runs while Pierrot, Busin and senior left fielder Michael McMillen (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) all drove in one run. Sophomore right fielder Chris Schwamberger (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison) scored twice.

Senior pitcher Mike Gundy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) took the loss, allowing five earned runs and eight hits in 3 1/3 innings. Sophomore Dan Aloisio (Chicago, Ill./Wheaton Academy) pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief while junior Mike Kennedy (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) pitched the eighth.

Grove City will host Washington and Jefferson Saturday in a PAC doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m.
