La Roche downs Grove City
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team fell to 10-5 overall Tuesday afternoon with an 11-1 non-conference loss at La Roche.
La Roche limited Grove City to just seven singles on the afternoon. Senior Chris Schwamberger (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison) singled twice while junior DH Pat Messner (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) singled and scored in the sixth.
Sophomore Zach Hillegas (Bridgeport, W. Va./Bridgeport) pitched 2 1/3 innings and took the loss for Grove City. Hillegas allowed five runs in that span. Freshman Michael Herringshaw (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin), senior Neil Hoagland (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch), sophomore Matt Tindall (Copley, Ohio/Copley) and freshman Jeff Baluch (Perryopolis, Pa./Geibel) all pitched in relief.
La Roche jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third inning, then added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Redhawks added three runs in the seventh before being blanked by Baluch in the eighth.
Grove City will host Waynesburg Wednesday in a PAC doubleheader at 1 p.m.
