GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team wrapped up the 2007 season by splitting a non-conference doubleheader at Pitt-Greensburg Monday afternoon. Grove City (16-19) earned a 4-3 win in the opener but Pitt-Greensburg rebounded for a 3-2 victory in the nightcap at Ridilla Field.

Freshman Jeff Baluch (Perryopolis, Pa./Geibel) capped his rookie season by earning a complete-game win in the opener. Baluch struck out five over seven innings to earn his third win of the year. He scattered nine hits.

Junior center fielder Brian Moran (Columbia, Md./Chapelgate) went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles to help lead Grove City's 11-hit attack. Senior right fielder Chris Schwamberger (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison), junior catcher Ray Mertz (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) and freshman third baseman Mark Scriven (Gibsonia, Pa./Dutch Fork, S.C.) all collected a pair of singles.

Mertz singled and later came home on an error in the second, putting Grove City up 1-0. Grove City then took a 2-0 lead in the third as Moran doubled, stole third and scored on a Schwamberger single. The Wolverines added a pair of runs in the fifth as Mertz and sophomore left fielder Seth Thompson (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) each had run-scoring singles.
