GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team opened the home portion of the 2010 schedule with a come-from-behind 12-9 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Waynesburg Wednesday afternoon at R. Jack Behringer Field.

Grove City (6-7, 2-1 PAC) broke a 9-9 tie in the bottom of the eighth as senior first baseman Tyler Thompson (Lee, Maine/Lee Academy) roped a two-run single that scored juniors Scott Moran (Columbia, Md./Chapelgate Christian) and Andrew Patterson (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian).

Grove City added an insurance run later in the inning when junior catcher Marcus Magister (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) scored on a force play.

The Wolverines fell behind 7-2 in the third but pulled back into the game with a four-run rally in the bottom of the third inning. Junior left fielder Butch Kriger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) and junior center fielder Dan Quirk (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville) both cracked run-scoring singles in the inning, as did freshman Zach Butler (Massillon, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian).

Magister singled in Patterson in the bottom of the sixth to forge a 9-9 tie.

Moran and Magister both doubled for Grove City. Moran and Patterson both scored three runs while Kriger scored twice. Butler went 2 for 3.

Six Grove City pitchers saw action with senior Mike Herringshaw (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) earning the relief win. Herringshaw, who made his school-record 50th appearance, pitched two innings and did not allow a run.

Junior Matt Smith (Loudonville, N.Y./Loudonville Christian) started and allowed five runs in 2 1/3 innings.
