W&J clips Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped to 6-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Friday afternoon as the Wolverines dropped a 13-5 decision to visiting Washington & Jefferson at Jack Behringer Field. W&J (10-11, 6-1) broke the game open with a six-run third inning.

Sophomore right fielder Josh Sacks (Columbia, Md./Chapelgate Christian) paced the Grove City offense by going 3 for 3 with two doubles and three runs scored. Senior DH Marcus Magister (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) and senior left fielder Butch Kriger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) both doubled while senior center fielder Dan Quirk (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Schuylerville) went 2 for 4. Grove City collected 12 hits in the game.

Sophomore pitcher Erick Locker (Canton, Ohio/Lake Center Christian) took the defeat for Grove City after yielding seven earned runs in 2 1/3 innings. Freshman Brandon Baker (Germantown, Md./Northwest), senior Andy Klimek (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette), senior Chip Hasek (Valencia, Pa./Mars), junior Andrew Krull (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) and senior Matt Smith (Albany, N.Y./Loudonville Christian) all pitched in relief. Hasek pitched two scoreless innings and Smith tossed a scoreless ninth. Klimek and Krull each yielded one run.

Grove City will visit W&J Saturday for a conference doubleheader at 4 p.m.
