Westminster tops Wolverines
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped a 21-4 decision to visiting Westminster Wednesday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at R. Jack Behringer Field.
Westminster (15-7, 6-0 PAC) led 7-0 after three inning and then broke open the game with seven runs in the top of the fourth.
For Grove City, freshman DH J.R. Willard (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) tripled and singled and junior first baseman Kyle Shock (Loudonville, Ohio/Hillsdale) also tripled. Junior DH Zach Struharik (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) doubled.
Grove City broke through in the bottom of the fifth when Shock tripled and scored on a groundout by sophomore third baseman Evan Hoskinson (Uniontown, Ohio/Green). In the seventh, junior right fielder Cameron Jones (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) singled with one out and later scored on a single from sophomore left fielder Randen Schleiden (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit North).
Willard opened the eighth with a triple and came home on a single from sophomore first baseman Ryan Parker (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston). Parker then scored on a fielder's choice.
Freshman pitcher Will Chaney (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) started and allowed three runs in two innings. He took the setback.
Junior Max Vickerman (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley), senior Andrew Krull (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny), freshman Tom Chaney (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), freshman Blaine Lang (Canfield, Ohio/Ursuline), junior Zach Butler (Massillon, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) and freshman Lee Coppock (Charlottesville, Va./Covenant School) all pitched in relief. Lang recorded two scoreless innings.
Grove City will host Allegheny Tuesday at 4 p.m. in non-conference action.
