Waynesburg tops Wolverines

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped an 8-3 decision to visiting Waynesburg Wednesday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at R. Jack Behringer Field.

Junior center fielder Josh Sacks (Columbia, Md./Chapelgate Christian) and senior second baseman Brandon Durbin (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) both went 3 for 4 for Grove City.

Grove City took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Durbin doubled in junior first baseman Kyle Shock (Loudonville, Ohio/Hillsdale). Shock led off the inning with a double.

Waynesburg (20-14, 9-9 PAC) eventually took an 8-1 lead into the eighth inning. Sacks scored the Wolverines' second run of the afternoon when he singled and later came home on a sacrifice fly by junior DH Zach Struharik (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman). In the ninth, Durbin singled and came home on a pinch hit single from sophomore Tom Hawley (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora).

Freshman third baseman J.R. Willard (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) doubled for Grove City, which had 11 hits in the game.

Freshman pitcher Blaine Lang (Canfield, Ohio/Ursuline) started and pitched 2 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs and took the defeat.

Senior Andrew Krull (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny), freshman Tom Chaney (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), junior Max Vickerman (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) and freshman Will Chaney (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) all pitched in relief.

Grove City will visit Washington & Jefferson Friday in conference action at 3 p.m.
