Grove City falls on road

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped a 10-1 decision at Washington & Jefferson Friday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at Ross Memorial Park. W&J (26-5, 17-2 PAC), the second-ranked team in the NCAA Mideast Region, jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and took control of the game.

For Grove City, junior center fielder Josh Sacks (Columbia, Md./Chapelgate Christian) went 3 for 5 and junior right fielder Cameron Jones (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) collected a pair of hits in three plate appearances.

The Wolverines broke through in the fifth when Jones singled, moved to second on a Sacks single and then came home when sophomore shortstop Tom Hawley (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) laced a two-out single to center field.

Freshman pitcher Will Chaney (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) started for Grove City and pitched six innings. He took the defeat. Senior Andrew Krull (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

Grove City will host W&J Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in a conference doubleheader at R. Jack Behringer Field.
