Wolverines fall on road

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader with conference foe Geneva Monday afternoon at 33rd Street Field. Geneva won the opener 7-0 and then claimed an 8-3 win in the second game.

Senior left fielder Zach Struharik (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) roped a pair of doubles in the opener for Grove City, which stranded 12 runners on base.

Senior pitcher Zach Butler (Massillon, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) threw a complete game for the Wolverines but took the setback. He allowed seven earned runs in six innings while striking out four.

In Game Two, Grove City fell behind 3-0 in the first inning but quickly tied the game in the top of the second. Sophomore DH J.R. Willard (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pine-Richland) started the scoring by driving in senior first baseman Kyle Shock (Loudonville, Ohio/Hillsdale) with a sacrifice fly.

Freshman right fielder Kenny McCracken (Wheaton, Ill./Aurora Christian) singled in senior catcher Garrett Herald (Grove City, Pa./Grove City), cutting the lead to 3-2. Senior center fielder Josh Sacks (Columbia, Md./Chapelgate Christian) then walked with the bases loaded, forcing home junior third baseman Matt Corner (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) with the tying run.

Geneva reclaimed the lead with single runs in the second and third innings, however.

Struharik also doubled in Game Two.

Sophomore pitcher Chris Curran (Lyndhurst, Ohio/Brush) started for Grove City. He yielded four runs in two innings and received the setback. Freshman Ryan Gallagher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) allowed three earned runs in four innings of relief.

Grove City will host Westminster Wednesday in a conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.
