Bethany nips Grove City, 2-1

BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped a 2-1 decision at Bethany Monday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Bethany Park. Bethany (8-18, 6-13 PAC) scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to pull out the victory.

Senior pitcher Max Vickerman (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) started for the Wolverines and allowed just five singles and no walks over seven shutout innings. He has now thrown 16 consecutive scoreless innings and has allowed just 11 singles and no walks in that span.

Grove City broke the 0-0 tie in the top of the seventh when freshman shortstop J.R. Mountain (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) singled, stole second and then scored on a single from junior third baseman Matt Corner (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock).

Mountain went 2 for 4 and senior first baseman Kyle Shock (Loudonville, Ohio/Hillsdale) tripled and singled.

Freshman pitcher Scott Williams (Creston, Ohio/Norwayne) pitched the eighth and took the defeat. He allowed one earned run.

Grove City (4-15, 3-10) will host conference foe Saint Vincent Tuesday at 4 p.m.
