Thiel tops Grove City

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped a 9-2 decision at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Thiel Friday afternoon at Tomcat Park.

Thiel (20-15, 13-6 PAC) jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Grove City broke through in the sixth. Senior center fielder Josh Sacks (Columbia, Md./Chapelgate Christian) led off with an infield single and later came home on a run-scoring single from senior first baseman Kyle Shock (Loudonville, Ohio/Hillsdale).

Three Thiel errors in the eighth helped Grove City trim the lead to 5-2. However, Thiel broke open the game with four runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Senior left fielder Zach Struharik (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) doubled and singled for Grove City and junior third baseman Matt Corner (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) added a pair of singles.

Junior pitcher Erick Locker (Canton, Ohio/Lake Center Christian) started and allowed four runs in four innings. He took the defeat. Senior Max Vickerman (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) pitched the final four innings in relief. Neither pitcher walked a batter.

Grove City (4-17, 3-12) will host Thiel Saturday at 1 p.m. in a conference doubleheader at R. Jack Behringer Field.
