Wolverines shoot down Hawks, 65-50

Box Score

GROVE CITY, PA, January 13, 2001--Junior Dan Quinn (Uniontown, OH/Green) returned to the starting line-up and fired in a game-high 19 points as Grove City opened up a 15-2 lead and never looked back in a 65-50 win over visiting Hilbert Saturday afternoon.

The Wolverines' third straight victory improved their record to 9-5 overall, while Hilbert fell to 7-5.

Quinn, who missed the first six weeks of the season with a viral infection, scored six of the Wolverines' first eight points. The 6-7, 245-pound center hit 6 of 11 shots from the floor, 7 of 9 from the free-throw line and added eight rebounds in 23 minutes of action.

Grove City, who led 36-22 at halftime, out-rebounded the Hawks, 46-25, and committed just eight turnovers.

Hilbert cut the margin to eight twice in the game -- with 6:31 remaining in the first half (21-13) and with 12:28 left in the game (43-35), but couldn't get any closer.

Sophomore Andy Vlajkovich (Canfield, OH/Canfield) was the only other Wolverine in double-digits with 10 points.  Tying Quinn for high-rebound honors in the game were junior Chris Kreider (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) and freshman Ian Dean (Damascus, MD/Damascus) with eight each.  Kreider added a game-high seven assists and three steals.

The Hawks, held to just 36% shooting in the game, were led by Mike Tyszka's 13 points.

The Wolverines open Presidents' Athletic Conference play at home next Wednesday against Bethany at 8:00 p.m.
