Wolverines stay in PAC hunt, beat W&J 58-55

GROVE CITY, PA, January 24, 2001--Sophomore 6-9 center Jeb Schreiber (Oil City, PA/Oil City) needed just three minutes to send Grove City to a 58-55 win over visiting Washington & Jefferson Wednesday night.

Schreiber, in his only shift of the game, rallied the Wolverines from a 42-38 deficit with two rebounds, one blocked shot and four points, including the go-ahead bucket with 6:46 remaining that put Grove City ahead for good, 49-47. 

The Wolverines extended their lead to seven, 54-47, before W&J used a 6-0 run to pull within one point with two minutes left to play.  Junior Pat Roberts (Home, PA/Marion Center) converted one of two free throws at 1:43 and freshman Jim Fetzner (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) added a field goal 20 seconds later to put the Wolverines up 56-53.   Sophomore Andy Vlajkovich (Canfield, OH/Canfield) then pushed the lead to 58-53 with a pair of free throws at 0:33.  W&J, who went 0-for-6 from the floor in the final two minutes, closed the scoring with two freebies in the final seconds.

Roberts scored a team-high 13 points and added a game-best 14 rebounds as Grove City posted a decisive 49-29 edge on the glass.  The 6-6 center was also credited with four assists and two blocks.

Nolan Larry tossed in 15 points to lead the Presidents.

The Wolverines improved to 11-6 overall, 2-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.  W&J fell to 4-11, 0-3 in the PAC.
