Wolverines deal W&J ninth straight loss, 74-59

WASHINGTON, PA, January 23, 2002--Freshman Nate Maurer (Mount Lebanon, PA/The Linsly School) recorded his second double-double in four starts as the Grove City Wolverines improved to 2-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference and 13-5 overall with a 74-59 win over host Washington & Jefferson, who dropped to 0-3 in the league, 3-12 overall.

Grove City led 37-27 at halftime and cruised to its fifth victory in six games, leading by at least seven points the rest of the way.

Maurer posted 13 points and 10 boards for Grove City, who received an honorable mention in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region rankings for the second week in a row on Monday.  Junior Andy Vlajkovich (Canfield, OH/Canfield) scored a team-high 16 points, while senior Pat Roberts (Home, PA/Marion Center) and sophomore Tanner Prosser (Pittsburgh, PA/Brentwood) contributed 11 points each.  Prosser added six boards and four assists. 

Nolan Larry and Scott Chodor led the Presidents with 18 points apiece.

The Wolverines outshot W&J 48.3 percent to 38.9 percent and held a decisive 44-25 edge on the glass.
