Frostburg State slips past Wolverines, 75-70

FROSTBURG, Md.  -- The Grove City College men's basketball team fell to 9-11 Wednesday night with a 75-70 loss at Frostburg State in non-conference action at Bobcat Arena.

The loss snaps Grove City's three-game win streak.

Sparked by six first-half three-point goals, the Wolverines raced to a 40-29 halftime lead. Grove City led by as many as 13 before the Bobcats (11-9) charged back. Guard Chris Vaughn sparked the comeback with three three-pointers in the second half. The last of the three triples tied the game at 61.

Four Wolverines scored in double figures, led by senior forward Tanner Prosser (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood). Prosser scored 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting and moved into 13th place on Grove City's all-time scoring list with 1,160 career points. Prosser passed Bart Niemeyer (1958-62), who had 1,145 points.

Sophomore forward Matt Phillips (Bainbridge, Ohio/Kenston) fired in a career-high 14 points while junior forward Ryan Eller (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) added 13 points. Junior guard Mike Lukcic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) added a dozen points. Phillips also pulled in a career-high 18 rebounds.

Dan Ryley led Frostburg State with a game-high 20 points. Grove City out-rebounded the Bobcats 38-34 but committed 18 turnovers.

Grove City returns to Presidents' Athletic Conference action Saturday at Bethany. Tip-off is 4 p.m. Grove City is 3-2 in the PAC while Bethany is 4-1.
