Wolverines slip past Behrend 

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team improved to 3-0 Tuesday night with a 62-58 victory over visiting Penn State Behrend at the Grove City College Arena in the Wolverines' 2004-2005 home opener.

The Wolverines sealed the victory by making five of six free throws in the final 22 seconds. Two free throws from sophomore guard Bobby Glass (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) with 2.3 seconds left sealed the victory. Glass finished with a season-high 11 points.

Senior center Phil Bushre (Swartz Creek, Mich./Swartz Creek) paced the Wolverines with a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double while sophomore forward Mark Smith (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) tossed in a career-high 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Grove City trailed by as many as six in the second half, 39-33. However, three-pointers from senior Ryan Eller (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) and Glass helped tie the game at 41. Grove City then surged ahead as junior forward Ryan Nellenback (Syracuse, N.Y./Faith Heritage) drilled a three with 11:43 left.

The lead changed hands five times before Grove City took the lead for good with 4:14 left as Bushre scored from close range. Grove City shot 24 of 46 (52 percent) from the floor. The Wolverines also went 8 of 9 at the foul line while Behrend did not attempt a free throw. Grove City also had a season-low 10 turnovers while Behrend had just nine turnovers.

Doug Merski led the Lions with 13 points while Tom Lulich added 12. Grove City will host La Roche Nov. 30.
