Grove City tops Thiel, 81-65

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Grove City College men's basketball team improved to 3-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Wednesday night with an 81-65 home win over Thiel in PAC action at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City (7-10 overall) forced 23 Thiel turnovers and shot 50 percent (31 of 62) from the floor. Three Wolverines scored in double figures, led by senior forward Chuck Cotherman (Knox, Pa./Keystone) with 19 points. Cotherman shot 8-of-10 from the field.

Sophomore guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) fired in 15 points, including five three-point goals. Junior forward Mark Smith (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) added 14 points on 7-of-11 marksmanship.

Grove City led 41-32 at halftime after a first half that featured four ties and five lead changes. The Wolverines put the game away with an 11-0 run in the second half that gave Grove City a 77-56 advantage with four minutes left.

Smith added a team-high six rebounds for Grove City. Thiel out-rebounded Grove City, 40-33. James Beedle led Thiel with 20 points while Geno Bianco added 16.

Grove City will visit Bethany Saturday in PAC action at 2 p.m.
