Wolverines earn first win of 2006-07

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Four Grove City players scored in double figures Tuesday night, helping the Wolverines earn a 69-59 home victory over Penn State Altoona (0-3) in non-conference men's basketball action in the Grove City College Arena.

Sophomore guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) fired in a career-high 17 points, including 4-for-5 accuracy on three-point goals. Junior guard Joe Capotosta (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) tossed in 14 points while junior guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) added a dozen points.

Senior forward Mark Smith (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) posted his third straight double-digit scoring effort with 10 points while senior center Craig Hallman (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside) added nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Grove City (1-2) led by as many as 14, 24-10, in the first half. Penn State Altoona closed to within 31-24 at the half. However, the Lions could draw no closer than seven points in the second half.

Grove City converted 23 Altoona turnovers into 25 points. Grove City also limited the Lions to 20-of-51 (39 percent) shooting from the floor. The Wolverines drained eight of 17 three-point shots.

Tyler Franklin led Penn State Altoona with 26 points. The Lions owned a 36-32 rebounding edge.

Grove City will visit Geneva next Wednesday night, Nov. 29, at 7:30 p.m.
