Wolverines earn 11th win

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Four Grove City players scored in double figures Wednesday night as the host Wolverines earned a 65-56 victory over visiting Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference men's basketball action at the Grove City College Arena.

Junior guard Shawn Carr (Mount Jackson, Pa./Mohawk) and sophomore guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) each fired in 13 points for Grove City (11-9, 4-4 PAC) while junior guard Ryan Gerber (Baltic, Ohio/Garaway) tossed in 11 points. Senior forward Mark Smith (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) added 10 points, including a pair of three-point goals.

Grove City closed the first half with a 12-2 run and led 33-22 at the half. The Wolverines eventually extended the lead to 17, 43-26, midway through the second half. Thiel (5-14, 2-6) charged back in the second half and closed to within three, 57-54, with 1:13 left on a three-point play by Joe Herrmann. However, the Wolverines made eight consecutive foul shots in the final minute to seal the victory.

For the game, Grove City made 20 of 22 (91 percent) free throws, including 16-for-17 accuracy in the second half.

Gibson and Smith each grabbed six rebounds, helping Grove City own a 33-28 edge on the glass. Thiel shot 21 of 50 (42 percent) from the floor while Grove City made 21 of 49 (43 percent) field-goal attempts.

Herrmann led Thiel (5-14, 2-6 PAC) with a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double while Gary Gates added 12.

Grove City will host Bethany Saturday afternoon in PAC action at 3 p.m.
