Wolverines' 2nd half rally falls short
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team fell to 12-11 overall Saturday night with an 84-74 loss to host Saint Vincent at the Carey Center. Grove City trailed 48-24 early in the second half but eventually closed to within four, 75-71, with 2:36 left. However, the Wolverines could not draw any closer.
Junior guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) fired in six second-half three-point goals as part of a 21-point outing. His six three-pointers tie a single-game College record. Carr also hit six three-pointers Wednesday night against Westminster.
Senior center Craig Hallman (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside) recorded a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double for Grove City while sophomore guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) added 12 points and six assists.
Grove City shot just 7 of 25 (28 percent) from the floor in the first half and trailed 36-18 at the half. Grove City exploded for 56 second-half points as the Wolverines shot 58 percent (19 of 33) from the field over the final 20 minutes. However, Saint Vincent (14-9) drained 17 of 30 field-goal attempts (57 percent) in the second half.
Marc Duncan led the Bearcats with 27 points while Javille Brooks added 20. The Bearcats also forced 19 Grove City turnovers. Grove City out-rebounded Saint Vincent, 39-35.
Grove City will visit Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Washington & Jefferson Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
