Behrend ousts Grove City in ECAC quarterfinal

ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team concluded the 2006-07 season Wednesday night with a 76-46 loss to host Penn State Behrend (20-7) in the quarterfinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southern Championship Tournament at the Junker Center. Grove City, champions of the Presidents' Athletic Conference and the No. 8 seed in the ECAC Tournament, concludes the season at 16-13.

Top-seeded Behrend jumped out to an 11-0 lead three minutes into the game and led wire-to-wire. Behrend shot 53 percent (29 of 55) from the floor for the game. The Lions also forced 19 Grove City turnovers, including 14 miscues in the second half.

Senior forward Mark Smith (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) led Grove City with 15 points and six rebounds while junior guard Joe Capotosta (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) added eight points. The Wolverines shot 38 percent (17 of 45) from the field for the game.

Drew Seker led Behrend with 17 points. Behrend led 38-24 at halftime. The Lions will advance to Friday's semifinals against No. 4 seed Juniata.

Smith and senior center Craig Hallman (Ellwood City, Pa./Riverside) each played their final game for Grove City Wednesday night.
