Malone tops Grove City
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team opened the 2007-08 season Friday night with an 85-61 setback against NAIA member Malone in the opening night of the Geneva College Tip-Off Tournament at Metheny Field House. Malone shot 56 percent (14 of 25) from the floor in the first half en route to a 49-32 halftime lead.
Senior guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) led Grove City with 13 points, including four three-point goals. Junior guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) added 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Sophomore center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) and junior guard Joe McCoy (Newark, Ohio/Newark) each chipped in nine points.
Grove City shot 45 percent (21 of 47) from the floor but committed 20 turnovers. Malone went 26 of 31 at the foul line while the Wolverines made 14 of 23 free throws. Malone out-rebounded the Wolverines, 35-30.
Grove City will face Franciscan University Saturday at 1 p.m. at Geneva.
