Wolverines pull out road win

ALTOONA, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team improved to 2-1 Tuesday night by earning a 75-66 victory over host Penn State Altoona in non-conference action at Adler Gym.

Grove City trailed 56-53 with seven minutes left but the Wolverines surged ahead with a 13-1 run. Senior guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) and junior guard Joe McCoy (Newark, Ohio/Newark) both drained three-pointers during the blitz while junior guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) added a layup and two free throws.

Defensively, Grove City forced four turnovers and limited the Lions to 0-for-3 shooting from the floor during that five-minute stretch.

Carr led Grove City with a season-high 21 points, which included a 5-for-6 effort behind the three-point line. Gibson added 14 points and four assists. Sophomore Luke Tomaselli (Cresson, Pa./Penn Cambria) tossed in nine points and pulled in a game-high seven rebounds. Grove City out-rebounded Penn State Altoona, 32-21.

Grove City made just 19 field goals on 37 attempts (51 percent) but took advantage of a distinct edge at the foul line. Grove City shot 29 for 37 (78 percent) at the foul line while the Lions went 15 for 24. Twenty-six of Grove City's 44 second-half points came at the foul line. The Wolverines also had 8-for-13 marksmanship from three-point territory.

Quintin Dziabo led Penn State Altoona with 14 points. The Lions led 33-31 at halftime. The game featured six ties and seven lead changes.

Grove City will host Juniata Wednesday night, November 28 at 8 p.m. in non-conference play.
