Wolverines roll past Frostburg State

MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's basketball team improved to 7-2 Saturday night with a 72-53 victory over Frostburg State (2-8) in the first night of action at Marietta College's Shrine Classic in the Ban Johnson Arena.

Senior guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) and sophomore center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) each fired in 18 points to lead Grove City (7-2). The Wolverines closed the game on a 19-3 run and shot 54 percent (13 of 24) from the field in the second half. Grove City trailed 25-24 at the half.

Defensively, Grove City limited Frostburg State to only seven second-half field goals. Frostburg State shot just 27 percent (7 of 26) from the floor in the second half. Frostburg State recorded just one field goal over the final seven minutes.

O'Keefe and senior forward Bobby Turner (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) both grabbed six rebounds, helping the Wolverines own a 37-29 edge on the glass. Turner also had four assists while junior point guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) distributed six assists. The Wolverines had just 11 turnovers.

Brian Green led Frostburg State with 20 points.

Grove City will play Marietta Sunday at 4 p.m. Marietta defeated Waynesburg Saturday night, 98-85. The matchups for the Shrine Classic were pre-determined.
