Grove City falls at Marietta, 95-85

MARIETTA, Ohio -- Despite having four players score in double figures and committing just five turnovers, the Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 95-85 decision to host Marietta (4-7) Sunday afternoon in the second day of the 31st annual Marietta Shrine Classic at Ban Johnson Arena. Grove City is now 7-3 overall.

Grove City shot 51 percent (33 of 65) from the field but Marietta drained 16 of 28 three-point attempts. Marietta finished the game 33 of 61 (54 percent) from the field. The Pioneers also out-rebounded Grove City, 37-27.

Junior guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) fired in a team-high 17 points for Grove City while sophomore center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) added 15 points and five assists. Both Gibson and O'Keefe each went 7 for 10 from the floor Sunday. Both earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.

Senior guard Ryan Gerber (Baltic, Ohio/Garaway) and junior guard Joe McCoy (Newark, Ohio/Newark) both tossed in 12 points.

Grove City broke a 41-41 halftime tie by scoring the first six points of the second half. However, Marietta took control of the game with a 26-7 run.

Tournament MVP Isaiah Creasap led Marietta with 27 points, including eight three-point goals. Jordan Cox added 22 points.

Grove City returns to action next Friday, January 4 against John Carroll at DeSales University's Casa Mia Tournament in Bethlehem, Pa.
