Wolverines improve to 8-4

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Four Grove City College players scored in double figures Saturday afternoon, helping lead the Wolverines to an 83-68 victory over Briarcliffe in the consolation game of DeSales University's Casa Mia Tournament at Billera Hall.

Sophomore center Andy O'Keefe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) scored a game-high 18 points for the Wolverines (8-4) while senior forward Bobby Turner (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) fired in 15 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Senior guard Shawn Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) added 14 points while senior guard Joe Capotosta (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) scored a dozen. Carr and Capotosta both went 4-for-5 from behind the three-point line. A Capotosta three with 11 minutes left in the game broke a 50-50 tie and gave Grove City the lead for good.

Grove City outscored Briarcliffe, 33-18, over the final 11 minutes of the game. For the game, Grove City shot 53 percent (28 of 53) from the floor, including a 10-for-21 effort on three-point goals. Grove City also shot 17 of 18 at the foul line and owned a 41-29 rebounding edge.

Junior guard Ryan Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) recorded eight points and eight assists, earning All-Tournament honors. Carr added a team-high three steals.

Marcel Seymore led Briarcliffe (3-8) with 16 points. Grove City held Briarcliffe to 37 percent (24 of 64) shooting from the field. Grove City led 39-34 at the half.

The Wolverines return to Presidents' Athletic Conference action Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against visiting Thomas More.
